Description:
INV-18115

Background
In current flow battery technology, the RFBs (Redox Flow Batteries) has been recognized as a viable technology for large-scale energy storage, the extensive utilization of the RFBs has been limited by the high cost, toxicity, and lack of abundance of the commonly used metals.

Technology Overview
Northeastern researchers used an aqueous organic redox flow battery that combines a food dye indigo carmine as the negative electrolyte.
All nature flow battery with one electrolyte from indigo carmine, and one electrolyte from nature, including air or other bio derived materials
Electrode is made from carbonized wood
Membrane is made from wood derived biopolymer

Benefits
- Can be easily extracted
- Low toxicity
- Can be repurposed easily
